SGS Timber Haulage was established in 1998 for the sole purpose of hauling round timber. The company was founded and is run by 3 directors with 78 years combined experience within the logging industry. Out of the 24 lorries that work for SGS, a number are owned privately by the directors (seven belonging to Robert and Helen Scott of R&H Scott Ltd, two belonging to David Swan of JD Swan and two belonging to Peter Gilbertson of Peter Gilbertson and Daughters Ltd). The rest of our company comprises of owner operators, the majority of which have worked with SGS since our inauguration 19 years ago.

All of our drivers are treated equally and haulage work allocation is dependent upon proximity, previous experience of the harvesting site and working time availability. The quality of the drivers at S.G.S has been the foundation of the company’s success. Their commitment and dedication to the job and their local knowledge is second to none. We insist that all operators are trained to a high standard in health and safety, fuel efficiency and crane competency and we operate lone working procedures which ensures maximum driver safety.

The fleet consists of five wagon and drags and nineteen articulated lorries, all of which are fitted with on board weighing devices to help maximize payload whilst keeping within the legal gross vehicle weight. The majority of these are fitted with Bigfoot or Tire Boss Central Tyre Inflation (CTI) systems which reduce the impact of the transport industry on the fragile forest road network and improve traction in poor working conditions.
